Remembering a Leader in the World of Telehealth

The CTeL team was devastated to learn of the sudden death this past week of Mario Gutierrez. A true leader in the world of telehealth, Mr. Gutierrez was at the time of his death serving as the executive director of the Center for Connected Health Policy (CCHP) in California. Throughout his long career, he was a fierce, passionate advocate for increased access to telehealth care as a way to reduce health care disparities, particularly among rural, migrant, and Native American patients.

This past June, Mr. Gutierrez presented at CTeL’s Spring Summit, where he lent his expertise to a panel on Medicaid reimbursement. The work of Mr. Gutierrez and his colleagues at the CCHP, too, has often served as an invaluable resource to the CTeL team, and we are grateful to have had the ability to collaborate with him.

We will be keeping Mr. Gutierrez’s family, friends, and colleagues in our thoughts. In the meantime, we will seek to honor his legacy by working to expand access to quality telehealth care across the country.
