Effective date: October 5, 2026

The Center for Telehealth and eHealth Law (“CTeL,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates this website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share personal information through the website and related inquiries. Separate privacy notices may apply to Genie, membership platforms, and other services linked from this site.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide. We collect the information you choose to submit, such as your name, email address, organization, job title, phone number, communication preferences, and inquiry details. Our Risk Overview form collects contact and organization information so our team can follow up. Website form submissions are stored in our website database and may be included in follow-up communications.

Memberships and transactions. When you join, register for an event, purchase a resource, or donate through a linked platform, we may receive contact details, membership or registration records, order or donation information, and payment status. Submit payment details only through the checkout service provided.

Technical and usage information. Our website and service providers may collect IP addresses, browser and device details, approximate location, referring pages, pages visited, links clicked, and visit dates and times.

Please do not submit patient records, protected health information, payment-card details, or other sensitive or confidential information through general website forms or inquiries.

2. How we use information

We use information to respond to inquiries, provide requested resources, administer memberships and transactions, organize events, and communicate with you about CTeL. We also use it to understand website activity, maintain and improve services, address security issues, keep business records, and meet legal obligations. Marketing communications are subject to your preferences and applicable law.

3. How we share information

CTeL does not sell personal information or provide visitor or member contact lists to advertisers or sponsors.

Information may be available to authorized CTeL personnel and service providers that help operate CTeL, including website hosting, analytics, email, membership management, event registration, and payment services. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights or safety, investigate misuse, or carry out your instructions.

External services may collect information directly when you visit them or load their embedded content. Their own privacy notices describe how they use that information independently.

4. Cookies, analytics, and external services

Cookies and similar technologies support sessions, website functions, and usage measurement. We use Jetpack statistics to understand visits and interactions. See Automattic’s privacy notice for site visitors for details about its processing.

The site links to services including Wild Apricot for membership and transactions, CharityEngine for donations or subscriptions, and Substack for publications. Embedded videos, podcasts, maps, and externally hosted fonts may send technical information to their providers when loaded. Those providers may use cookies or collect information about activity across websites. Review the notices presented by each service, including Wild Apricot’s Privacy Policy.

You can block or delete cookies through browser settings and use privacy controls offered by individual providers. Some features may not work when cookies or embedded content are blocked. Blocking cookies does not necessarily prevent technical information from being sent when external content loads.

5. Your choices and privacy requests

You may choose not to provide information, although that may prevent us from responding to a request or providing a service. To stop marketing emails, use the unsubscribe link in a message or contact us. Necessary messages about an active membership, purchase, registration, or inquiry may still be sent.

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information, or to object to or restrict certain uses. Send requests to info@ctel.org. We may need to verify your identity and may retain records where legally required or otherwise permitted. For information independently controlled by another provider, use that provider’s privacy request process.

6. Retention and security

We retain information for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described here, including handling requests, maintaining memberships and transaction records, resolving disputes, and meeting legal obligations. The period depends on the information and its purpose.

No internet transmission or storage system is completely secure. Use care when sending information online and contact us if you have a privacy concern. CTeL is based in the United States; information may be processed there and where our service providers operate, under privacy laws that may differ from those where you live.

7. Children and policy updates

This website is intended for a professional audience and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us so we can review the situation and take appropriate steps, including deletion where required.

We may update this policy as our practices change. We will post an updated effective date and provide additional notice or obtain consent when required by applicable law.

8. Contact us

For privacy questions or requests, contact the Center for Telehealth and eHealth Law at info@ctel.org or (202) 499-6970. You can also visit our Contact page. Describe your request without including sensitive records.
