Remote Monitoring
Care that follows the patient home.
Tracking and managing health and symptoms from home with emerging technologies — so providers can check on patients between visits, collect vital signs, and manage chronic and acute conditions from anywhere.
Commonly monitored conditions
- High Blood Pressure
- Diabetes
- Heart Conditions
- Sleep Apnea
- Asthma
- Weight Management
- Medication Adherence
- Pain & Recovery
The Two Types
RPM and RTM — what's the difference?
Remote Physiologic Monitoring
Non-face-to-face monitoring and analysis of physiologic data used to understand a patient's health status and manage chronic or acute conditions.
Remote Therapeutic Monitoring
Uses medical devices to monitor a patient's health or response to treatment using non-physiological data — if it can't be billed under RPM, it likely bills under RTM.
Reimbursement & Codes
How RPM and RTM are reimbursed under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule — the code families, requirements, and what determines whether a claim is paid.
ReimbursementOversight & Fraud
Growing federal scrutiny of remote monitoring — OIG enforcement priorities, False Claims Act risk, and the billing-compliance guardrails providers need in place.

Workflow & EHRs
EHRs are built for episodic care, so RPM data needs to be integrated seamlessly into clinician workflows — managing device stock, avoiding alert burden, and training staff on documentation.
Patient Adherence
Success is patient-centered. Educate patients on how and when to use their device at the first visit, and use regular communication and alerts to keep them engaged and confident.
Data Security
As continuous monitoring grows, patient data must be transmitted securely and kept confidential. Any platform storing or transmitting patient data must be HIPAA compliant.
