Dr. Andrew Taylor Honored with 2025 CTeL Tr-AI-lblazer Award for Excellence in AI-Driven Healthcare
The Center for Telehealth and e-Health Law (CTeL) has announced Dr. Andrew Taylor, MD, MHS, as the recipient of the 2025 CTeL Tr-AI-lblazer Award. Dr. Taylor, Director of Artificial Intelligence for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, has been recognized for his pioneering contributions to artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in healthcare, particularly in emergency medicine and ethical AI governance.
A Leader in AI-Driven Healthcare Innovation Dr. Taylor’s groundbreaking research focuses on leveraging AI to enhance clinical decision support, streamline emergency care workflows, and reduce systemic health disparities. His work in large language models (LLMs), predictive analytics, and machine learning has resulted in real-time sepsis detection, opioid use disorder surveillance, and AI-assisted dementia recognition in emergency settings.
In response to receiving the award, Dr. Taylor stated, “AI has the power to revolutionize patient care, but it must be implemented ethically and equitably. This award underscores the importance of responsible AI in healthcare, and I am honored to be recognized by CTeL for this work.”

Brophy, an assistant professor of Health Policy and Management, commented, “Dr. Taylor’s research is not only advancing emergency medicine but also setting a national precedent for how AI should be deployed responsibly in clinical settings.”
Advancing Ethical AI in Medicine Beyond research, Dr. Taylor has played a key role in shaping AI policy and governance. He actively collaborates with federal agencies, academic institutions, and healthcare organizations to establish best practices for AI implementation. His work has informed national discussions on AI safety, transparency, and bias mitigation.
Dr. Taylor also leads the Yale Interdisciplinary AI in Medicine Lab (Y-IAIML), where he mentors a diverse research team focused on human-centered AI solutions. His leadership has helped secure over $40 million in research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), and other major organizations.
Upcoming Recognition and Future Contributions Dr. Taylor will be honored at CTeL’s Inaugural AI-Healthcare Integration Showcase on Capitol Hill on March 12, 2025. He will also deliver a keynote address at an upcoming CTeL Digital Health Summit, sharing insights on AI’s evolving role in healthcare. As of March 1, Dr. Taylor will be transitioning to the University of Virginia School of Medicine where he will be the Vice Chair of Research and Innovation and Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine.
